Seattle police officer put on leave following SPD, FBI investigation

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Police Department confirmed Monday night that one of its officers has been placed on administrative leave following a months-long criminal investigation involving the FBI.

In a brief statement released to the media, the department said it wanted to "address rumors and media inquiries that have surfaced today" involving an SPD officer.

The officer, who has not been identified, was questioned last week in relation to a months-long investigation conducted jointly by the Seattle Police Department and the FBI.

"Several months ago, the Seattle Police Department commenced a criminal investigation. During the course of that investigation, the SPD requested assistance from the FBI. The two agencies have been partnering on the case since that time," the department said.

SPD officials have not confirmed the nature of the investigation or why the officer was initially singled out for questioning. They say the officer has not been arrested and no criminal charges have been filed.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
