Seattle mushroom hunter missing in Chelan County

WENATCHEE, Wash. - Chelan County search and rescue teams are looking for a 79-year-old Seattle woman who has been missing since Saturday when she went mushroom hunting in the Chikamin Gulch area near the Basalt Peak trail.

Chelan County Sheriff Brian Burnett reports that a car belonging to Hildegard R. Hendrickson is believed to have been parked at a Forest Service trailhead in the area since Saturday, but the search did not begin until Tuesday when the car was reported as "suspicious."

When deputies checked with family members, it was determined that Hendrickson had never returned home to her Seattle residence from a day trip to the Chikamin Gulch area on Saturday.

Search and rescue teams initiated a search Tuesday evening using two search dogs and more than a dozen ground search personnel at the trailhead. The search resumed early Wednesday morning.

Anyone who may have seen or had contact with Hendrickson in the Chikamin Flats or Basalt Creek area of Chelan County over the past weekend is asked to contact the Chelan County Sheriff's Office at 509-663-9911.

Hendrickson has been an avid mushroom hunter for 37 years.

She is described as a white female, about 5-feet-4-inches tall, weighing 180 pounds with gray eyes and gray hair.
