Search on for person who fatally shot horse near Concrete
CONCRETE, Wash. -- Skagit County deputies are searching for the person who shot and killed a family's horse sometime Wednesday night. It happened in a pasture off NE Cape Horn Road near Concrete.
Neighbors discovered the horse, named Princess, dead with a single bullet hole to the head.
"You lose faith in people... why would someone do that?" says owner Ashley Schmidt.
Schmidt says she purchased Princess a couple of months ago as a pet and boarded the horse at the farm where she was killed. Everyday, she and her 4-year-old son would drive to the farm and visit her. Now she has to break the terrible news to him that Princess is gone.
"Sugar coat it as much as you can, but she's in heaven... what else do you say to a 4-year-old?" she said.
Neighbors think the killer shot the horse from a nearby road using a smaller caliber rifle since the gunshot didn't wake any of them out of bed.
Deputies say they have little evidence and no leads to go on. They're asking anyone with information to call them.
