Rescue swimmers borrow canoe to save boater in distress on Kitsap Lake
BREMERTON, Wash. -- A man who had apparently fallen out of a boat on Kitsap Lake was rescued by two firefighters who had to borrow a canoe from a lakeshore neighbor.
Firefighters from Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue were called to the old boat launch Wednesday morning just after 7 a.m. to help a man in the water. When crews arrived, they could hear the boater calling for help.
Two rescue swimmers borrowed a canoe and rowed out to the boat, plucking the man from the water and brought him to shore. He was taken to a local hospital to be checked for hypothermia, but was otherwise OK, officials said.
Officials didn't give any details on how the boater ended up in the water.
