Renton's Rainier Avenue North still closed by sinkhole
RENTON, Wash. - Rainier Avenue North remains closed Thursday morning in Renton as crews continue working to repair a sinkhole that opened up in the roadway on Wednesday.
City officials said they originally hoped to have the heavily used arterial open by the morning commute, but the work is taking longer than expected.
Now they are saying the roadway may not reopen until Thursday afternoon.
Crews worked through the night to repair the 15-foot deep sinkhole in the 900 block of Rainier Avenue North.
A detour around the area has been set up and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.
Access to businesses in the repair area will be available from the north or south via the parking lots that wrap around the back side.
This is a developing news story. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
