Seattle City Light crews and emergency personnel responded to the scene, at 3rd Avenue South and S. Forest Street, at about 5:30 a.m. after receiving a report of an electrical problem.
Arriving at the scene, they found a Rabanco recycling truck had crashed into a power pole there. Among the customers that lost power was the nearby Rabanco Recycling Co. facility.
A Seattle Department of Transportation office also lost power, temporarily affecting its ability to produce travel time estimates for the morning commute.
Also affected was a Seattle Public Schools office building - but there was little impact there because school is not yet in session.
Some traffic lights in the area also were temporarily inoperative.
By 8 a.m. power was being restored to all but about 40 customers as crews re-routed lines around the outage, but power is not expected to be completely restored until about 11:30 a.m.
There was no immediate word on why the truck hit the utility pole.
