SEATTLE - Detectives are asking for the public's help after a woman was hit by a car while walking through a crosswalk in downtown Seattle.

The woman, 57, was rushed to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries, officers said.

Police are searching for a light-blue 1993 four-door Buick LeSabre. The suspected driver, an unidentified black man, hit her at 3rd Avenue and Spring Street.

After hitting the woman, police say the driver sped off eastbound on Spring Street.

The intersection at 3rd and Spring was closed while detectives conducted their investigation but has since reopened.

The Buick has distinctive rims and a Washington licence plate. The license plate number is AAX0980.

Detectives talked with the Buick's registered owner, who said the car had recently been sold.

Anyone with information on the identity and/or location of the driver are urged to contact the Seattle Police Traffic Collision Investigation Squad at 206-684-8923.
