Puyallup pedestrian hit by car, seriously injured

PUYALLUP, Wash. -- A pedestrian was seriously injured Monday night when he was hit by a car in Puyallup.

Puyallup Police Chief Bryan Jeter said the accident happened at about 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of 35th Avenue SE and South Meridian.

Jeter said the pedestrian, who has not been identified, was crossing the street when he was hit. While he was in the crosswalk when he was hit, Jeter said it's unclear if the light was red or green at the time.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The driver immediately stopped and is cooperating with police. Jeter said it does not appear the drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
