Woman's remains found on remote Mason County trail
LILLIWAUP, Wash. - Detectives recovered a woman's remains from a remote trail in Mason County Wednesday afternoon.
The remains were discovered on a U.S. Forest Service road near the trailhead to upper and Lower Lena Lake around 2:30 p.m., Chief Ryan Spurling with the County Sheriff's Office says.
The woman's identity and age have not been confirmed, authorities say. The remains are partially decomposed, the Sheriff's Office says. It is unclear how they got there.
Officials will perform an autopsy to determine the woman's cause of death. Results are expected Friday morning. No other details have been released.
Lilliwaup is about 20 miles north of Shelton.
