Police: Spokane Co. prosecutor had ties to convict

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Records unsealed on Friday show why a Spokane County deputy prosecutor was placed on administrative leave this past spring: She is being investigated because of her relationship with a convict.

KREM reports that Marriya Wright is being investigated for suspicion of first-degree rendering criminal assistance because of her ties to convicted felon Matthew Baumrucker.

Court documents show detectives believed the pair exchanged nearly 1,300 texts while he was wanted by Spokane Police Department. Detectives also believed she gave him a photograph of herself in a bikini while he was in jail.

A warrant for drug possession was issued for Baumrucker in early February. He was also being investigated for an assault that occurred in March. Witnesses told detectives while Baumrucker was hiding from the police and that he called Wright for advice and a ride.

There was no answer Saturday for a number listed for Wright.
