Police search for cyclist who allegedly pushed man into traffic

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Police say a cyclist could be facing a misdemeanor assault charge after pushing a 70-year-old man into traffic in the 2900 block of Northwest Ave, Friday morning.

According to witnesses, the cyclist got off his bike and shoved the elderly pedestrian backwards onto the roadway. The victim hit his head on the pavement, but was conscious with minor injuries when medics arrived.

The cyclist told witnesses he and the victim had a confrontation earlier.

The victim told police he had told a cyclist to ride in the bike lane and not on the sidewalk. The victim was not sure if the suspect was that same cyclist.

Police are on the lookout for the cyclist, who has been described as a male in his 30's. A quick-thinking witness took a photo of the cyclist. As of Friday night, the suspect is still at large.
