Police officer shoots and kills suspect in Kitsap County

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. -- A Port Orchard police officer shot and killed a suspect Thursday night in an alley behind a Kitsap County strip mall.

Details are sketchy, but Sgt. Ken Dickinson with the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office said the officer shot the person at roughly 8:15 p.m. in an alley behind South Park Village, which plays home to numerous businesses and restaurants.

Dickinson would not comment on what led up to the shooting, but he said the officer suffered minor injuries during the incident.

"The investigation is in its infant stages, so there's not a whole lot more to release," Dickinson said.

Dickinson said detectives will remain on scene Thursday evening to collect evidence and interview witnesses.

Because the shooting happened in unincorporated Kitsap County, the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office will handle the investigation.
