Police: Man climbed downtown building to 'be closer to God'
SEATTLE -- The 26-year-old man officers found trapped on a ledge 15 feet above a downtown Banana Republic Wednesday morning was high on a mixture of drugs and trying to get closer to God, according to the Seattle Police Department.
The man was rescued from the ledge above an awning at Fifth Avenue and Pike Street around 6:30 a.m. with the help of a Seattle Fire Department ladder truck and specialized stretcher.
According to police, he told officers he had taken meth, pain killers and some other drug before climbing the building to pray and "be closer to God."
Unfortunately for the man, his climb toward divinity ended with him falling back to the rest of us mortals, landing on a ledge 30 feet below, according to police.
The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening leg injuries.
