Witnesses found the man with multiple stab wounds near the intersection of East Pike Street and Broadway at about 2:15 a.m. and called 911.
According to police, the victim had exchanged words with two men in the 900 block of East Pike Street then followed them to Broadway where the two men were joined by another man and two women.
The five suspects surrounded the victim, and one of the men hit the victim in the head with a skateboard, according to police. A second suspect reportedly stabbed the victim in the back with a knife, and another reportedly hit the victim in the head with a bottle.
According to police, the victim fell to the ground, and the suspects punched and kicked him before running off.
Medics took the victim to Harborview Medical Center, where he is listed in serious condition with stab wounds to the back.
Officers were unable to find the suspects but did get descriptions of three of the suspects from a witness.
The man with the skateboard was described as a white man in his 20s, approximately 6-feet-3-inches tall and 200 pounds with long blonde hair. He was wearing a black hoodie at the time of the attack.
The man with the knife was described as a white man in his 20s, approximately 5-feet-10-inches tall and thin. He was possibly wearing a white shirt at the time of the attack.
Another suspect was described as a white woman in her 20s, approximately 5-feet-5-inches tall, 150 pounds and stocky with dark hair. She was wearing black pants and black shoes at the time of the attack.
