Police looking for suspect after man shot dead in Tacoma

SEATTLE -- The Tacoma Police Department is looking for the man responsible for shooting and killing a 19-year-old University Place resident during a large fight early Sunday in Tacoma.

According to Crime Stoppers of Tacoma/Pierce County, Charles Williams left a memorial party at a dance hall near Sixth Avenue and Fife Street around 1:30 a.m. when he became involved in a large fight. More than 30 people were reportedly either participating in or watching the melee.

At some point during the fight, a man pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots, hitting Williams in the back, according to Crime Stoppers.

The shooter is described as a black man in his late teens or early 20s with a heavy build. His hair was in short dreadlocks or curls and he was wearing jean shorts and a black T-shirt with red and white lettering on the front.

Detectives hope someone who was involved in or witnessed the fight will step forward to help identify a suspect.
