Police looking for man who randomly attacked cinema janitor

EVERETT -- The Everett Police Department is looking for whoever is responsible for the brutal and apparently random attack of a movie-theater janitor back in November.

According to police, the janitor was working at the Everett Mall cinemas around 2:30 a.m. Nov. 8 when he walked by a man sitting in the hallway.

The man reportedly yelled something at the janitor, who doesn't speak much English and didn't understand what the man yelled.

According to police, the man followed the janitor, eventually getting close enough to punch him in the head multiple times.

"When the male catches up, he starts punching him in the head and our victim eventually falls to the ground. And once he does, our suspect in this case starts stomping on his head and really seriously injures the male. At one point he actually pulls out a knife and puts it against our victims head," said Aaron Snell with the Everett Police Department.

For some reason, the man reportedly stopped the attack, and the janitor ran off while yelling for help.

Officers arrived but were unable to find the attacker.

The janitor suffered severe injuries to his face and a concussion.

Mall regulars like Steven Rondeau say they're stunned by the brutal assault.

"I grew up I worked in the mall," Rondeau said. "I worked late nights, parked my car and walked out here myself. I would have never thought twice about something like that happening."

Security footage of the man suspected in the attack can be viewed here and here. The footage is only being released this late after the November attack because all of their leads have dried up.

"We have a normal guy working the late shift, 2:30 in the morning, doing what he's supposed to be doing and just out of the blue he gets attacked. It's a travesty," Snell said.

The attacker is described as a white man in his mid-20s who stands about 6 feet tall with blonde hair. He wore a black jacket and blue jeans and used a blue handled knife.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Everett Police Department TIP LINE at (425) 257-8450 or Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound at 1-800-222-TIPS.
