Police: Lakewood man admits to killing girlfriend
LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- The 32-year-old Lakewood man being investigated in the death of his 33-year-old girlfriend has admitted to beating her with a vacuum during a fight, according to the Lakewood Police Department.
As previously reported, the suspect called 911 from the Pacific Walk Townhomes shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday, frantically seeking medical help for his girlfriend, Angela Cannizzio-Brooks. Medics arrived and called police themselves due to suspicious circumstances.
According to police, the suspect was interviewed and admitted to getting into a physical fight with Cannizzio-Brooks, losing control and hitting her multiple times with an upright vacuum.
After Cannizzio-Brooks appeared to lose consciousness, the suspect dragged her downstairs to the living room and continued the assault, according to police.
According to the medical examiner, the cause of death was strangulation with blunt-force injuries to the head.
The suspect was arrested and booked into Pierce County Jail for investigation of murder. He is scheduled for arraignment Thursday afternoon.
