The woman was running around the 900 block of County Road 10 SE about 10 miles outside of Royal City Sunday evening when a white Oldsmobile approached and stopped.
The man behind the wheel, who the woman didn't recognize, asked her if she wanted a ride, said sheriff's spokesman Kyle Forman. The woman refused and told the driver she was exercising.
The car then drove away, turned around, drove past the woman, then turned around again, Forman said. The car then drove off the road, striking the woman from behind and knocking her to the ground.
The driver turned around yet again and struck the woman a second time, dragging her a short distance before speeding away, Forman said.
The woman was able to get help from a nearby property owner who called 911. The victim was taken to a Moses Lake hospital and was expected to survive.
A short time after the report, a Washington State Patrol Trooper found the Oldsmobile parked unoccupied at a home about three miles away. The car was impounded as evidence.
Forman says investigators have since identified a possible suspect but are awaiting the victim to confirm it was the driver.
