The crash happened at roughly 7:15 p.m. at North Meridian and River Road in Puyallup. Witnesses told police a man driving a Lexus sedan ran a red light and hit a male pedestrian in the crosswalk.
The car continued on for at least 50 feet with the injured man on the hood. Scott Engle with the Puyallup Police Department said the Lexus drove onto a sidewalk, hit a sign and crashed into several parked cars at the Korum car dealership, where the pedestrian happened to work.
Police and medics arrived moments later, but they were unable to save the man. The 41-year-old Federal Way resident died at the scene.
The driver, a 64-year-old Olympia man, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, but Engle said it does not appear he was seriously injured in the wreck.
After he was released from the hospital, the Olympia man was booked into jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide. Police believe he was under the influence of narcotics and was speeding at the time of the crash.
