Police arrest man accused of stealing necklace from toddler

WOODBURN, Ore. -- Police arrested a man they accuse of ripping a gold necklace off a toddler's neck.

The boy was standing outside a strip mall on North Pacific Highway in Woodburn when the suspect ripped it off him. His mother called police after she noticed her child was crying and rubbing his neck because of an abrasion.

Police talked to witnesses and found out the man who ran away from the scene was a person who'd shopped at area businesses. One business gave police information that led them to Jose Andres Garcia Sanchez. Officers arrested Garcia Sanchez at his home in Woodburn. Police say he confessed to the crime.

He was booked into the Marion County Jail on robbery and assault charges.
