Police: 14-year-old arrested for bringing gun to school

BURIEN, Wash. -- A 14-year-old Burien student was arrested Monday after bringing an unloaded handgun to school and showing it off to fellow students, according to the Burien Police Department.

According to police, another student reported the gun to school staff, and officers were able to arrive and confiscate it within minutes. The Burien Police Department described the student who reported the gun as a "hero" who "did the right thing."

The 14-year-old was arrested and booked into the Youth Services Center for felony possession of a handgun. According to police, he never pointed the gun at anyone nor did he make any threats.

Police are investigating where the student got the gun and whether any criminal charges are warranted against other parties.

"Burien PD will not tolerate weapons or unsafe behavior in our schools," according to a statement on the Burien Police Department's Facebook Page. "Schools must be safe in order for learning to occur. We commend the school staff and students for their actions today."
