Ore. couple find stranger showering in their home

KEIZER, Ore. - Police in Keizer, Ore., say a southwest Washington man has been arrested for investigation of burglary after a couple arrived home to find a stranger taking a shower in their home.

Lt. Lance Inman says the woman, Susie Kopaska, called 911 on Monday while her husband tried to keep the intruder from fleeing.

The man apparently entered the home through an unlocked rear door.

Police found the man wearing only a towel around his waist as the homeowner continued trying to restrain him. Police arrested the man after a brief struggle.

Inman says the man claimed the homeowner had allowed him to camp in a tent in the backyard so he thought it was OK to go inside and shower. The couple denied those things and said they'd never seen the man before.

Officers said the couple had set up the tent in their backyard to dry out.

"We were sitting in our patio and the whole time we were out in our yard this man was right here in a tent in my yard," Kopaska said.

Inman says 29-year-old Francis Lucero of La Center, Wash., was taken to the Marion County Jail.

He faces a burglary charge. He also had an arrest warrant for dangerous drugs from Multnomah County.

His bail is set at $42,500. He's due in court July 12.
