New boarding system begins at W. Seattle ferry dock
SEATTLE -- A new system to board ferries at the Fauntleroy Dock in West Seattle and intended to reduce wait times began Monday.
All drivers have to stop at the tollbooth to buy or redeem tickets.
Drivers get a destination car and a receipt.
They no longer have to stop again after the tollbooth to redeem tickets.
But drivers do have to keep their destination cars visible. Ferry workers direct drivers to the appropriate holding line.
The ferry system tested the system in May. It's expect to make the system more efficient and get more cars on every sailing.
But don't expect the new system to eliminate long wait times during the busy summer season.
The state will monitor the new system and make adjustments.
