WINLOCK, Wash. -- The Lewis County Sheriff's Office says a 58-year-old man pulled up in his driveway Wednesday night and shot several times at a neighbor, who was playing basketball with his son.

The son ran away to safety and alerted family members.

His 44-year-old dad was found dead by arriving officers.

The man was ultimately arrested early Thursday morning after a several-hour standoff, the Sheriff's Office said. Officers with a regional SWAT team got in his house in the 400 block of Meier Road and arrested him about 1 a.m. He was booked into jail.

Deputies were called to the neighborhood after 8 p.m. Wednesday. Callers to 911 said the man pulled up, brandished a gun and started firing, the Sheriff's Office says.
