Nabbed bank robber: 'I didn't think I was going to get away with it'

MERCER ISLAND, Wash.-- The power of positive thinking was certainly not on display on Mercer Island Monday afternoon.

A report of a robbery brought officers to the Wells Fargo bank on 78th Ave SE around 3:15 p.m., Mercer Island police said. Employees told officers a man came into the bank, and implied he had a weapon as he demanded cash from a teller.

The man then ran off on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. But he didn't get very far, captured a few minutes later by patrol officers who were in the area when the robbery call came out.

Officers found cash stuffed in the suspect's pockets and bank tellers were able to identify him as the man who robbed the bank.

Police say upon his arrest, the suspect told officers: "I didn't think I was going to get away with it anyway."
