SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. - A 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed overnight in a high-speed crash on a rural Skagit County road, the Washington State Patrol reports.

Troopers responded to the scene, four miles north of Sedro-Wolley in the 22400 block of Prairie Road, at about 8 p.m. after receiving a report of a serious crash involving a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, later identified as Joshua J. Simpson, 28, of Sedro-Woolley, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation found that Simpson was heading west on Prairie Road at high speed when he attempted to pass another vehicle. He lost control of his blue Yamaha YZFR1, veered off the roadway and crashed into a sign.

The driver of the other vehicle was not hurt.

The State Patrol says drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
