Motorcyclist killed in crash after running red light on Hwy. 7

SPANAWAY, Wash. - A motorcyclist was struck and killed Monday as he ran a red light south of Spanaway, the Washington State Patrol reported.

State troopers responded to the scene, at Highway 7 and 204th Street, at about 6 p.m. Monday after receiving a report of a serious crash involving a car and motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, later identifed as Tristan T. Newton, 27, of Tacoma, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation found that Newton was heading south on Highway 7 on a 1993 Honda motorcycle when he ran a red light at the 204th Street intersection.

Meanwhile, a 1995 Toyota Camry driven by a 50-year-old Spanaway man turned north onto Highway 7 from 204th Street and collided with the motorcycle. He was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
