In Thurston County Superior Court on Tuesday, 46-year-old Gloria Mendoza Garcia, and her daughter, 31-year-old Gloria Del Rocio Gonzalez, each pleaded not guilty to one count of first-degree theft.
The women work as interpreters for Spanish-speaking injured workers at medical appointments. The state Department of Labor and Industries pays for interpretation and mileage driven by interpreters as part of worker injury claims.
Charging papers allege Mendoza Garcia fraudulently received more than $28,000 in mileage reimbursement from March 2012 through February 2013. Her daughter is accused of fraudulently receiving more than $16,000 during that period.
It was not immediately clear whether the women have legal representation.
