Manhunt launched for fleeing suspect in Lake Stevens

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. - Two schools were placed on modified lockdown as a precaution Monday morning in Lake Stevens after police launched a manhunt for a possible armed suspect who fled from authorities.

The incident unfolded around 9 a.m. when police stopped a stolen vehicle in the vicinity of Cavalero Road and 20th Street SE. The suspect jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot, said John Dyer of the Lake Stevens police.

Officers set up a perimeter around the area and brought in a K-9 police dog to aid in the search for the suspect.

Two schools, Cavalero Mid High School and Glenwood Elementary School, were placed on lockdown as a precaution even though there was no direct threat to the schools, Dyer said. The lockdown was later lifted at Glenwood.

At last report, the suspect had not been found. There were unconfirmed reports that he was armed with a handgun.
