Man shot dead while driving with his wife in Federal Way

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - A 22-year-old man was shot dead while driving his car early Tuesday with his wife beside him in the passenger seat, police said.

It was the second shooting in the Federal Way neighborhood in less than a week.

Officers and medics responded to the scene, in the parking lot of the Mariposa Apartments at 28120 18th Ave. South, just after 1 a.m. after several people called 911 to report they heard gunshots, said Chris Norman of the Federal Way Police.

The man was found behind the wheel of his car with a serious gunshot wound. He was rushed to Harborview Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His wife was shaken up but unhurt.

A preliminary investigation found that at least one round went through the windshield of the victim's car and hit him. The car kept going after the shooting for another 300 yards before coming to a stop, Norman said.

Police have not yet released any information about a possible suspect or suspects. The shooting was only about four blocks away from a previous shooting last Friday.

Residents of the area were in shock.

"You could have been asleep - your kids in bed - a bullet comes through your door. That's kind of crazy and scary," said one witness, Charmayne Thompson.

Other witnesses said they heard several shots fired. No weapon has been recovered, police said.

The investigation continues.
