Another deadly shooting at Spanaway convenience store
SPANAWAY, Wash - Pierce County Sheriff's Deputies say a store clerk shot and killed a man outside the Pacific Quickmart in Spanaway Friday night.
Investigators say the clerk claims three men harassing him were customers in the parking lot of the store on 167th Street South and Pacific Avenue South.
The clerk told detectives he went outside and asked them to leave.
The men did leave, but then two returned and entered the store. The clerk said he then saw the men stealing cigarettes so he pulled out his gun.
Detectives say there was some sort of confrontation and the clerk fired the gun, hitting one of the suspects.
That man died at the scene. Police identified him as 21-year-old Jakeel Mason of Tacoma.
Detectives say the other man, accused of stealing, was briefly detained and is cooperating with police.
Investigators are now reviewing surveillance video.
Just last month the clerk's wife was shot inside the store during a robbery on February 18th.
In that case, she apparently got into a gun battle with a suspect.
She was shot in the stomach and is still recovering.
