Man killed after reportedly jumping onto moving train to escape cops
RITZVILLE, Wash. - A man was killed on Tuesday after he jumped off an overpass onto a moving a train in an attempt to escape law enforcement officers who were chasing after him.
According to the Adams County Sheriff's Office, the incident began when deputies, state troopers and Connell police pursued a suspect in Franklin County as he drove into Adams County.
Spike strips were used in an attempt to stop the man's car, but proved unsuccessful. Then, on Interstate 90 near Ritzville, the man's car lost its tires and came to a stop.
The man fled on foot and ran up an embankment and onto an overpass.
A Sheriff's Office spokesperson says the man reportedly jumped onto a moving train, but didn't survive.
It wasn't immediately clear why the officers were pursuing the suspect. His name and age were not released pending notification of his next of kin.
