Man killed after being ejected from window of car on I-405; driver missing
KIRKLAND, Wash. - A young man is dead after hanging out from a window of a car and being ejected.
The driver of the car is missing, the Washington State Patrol reports.
The incident unfolded about 3:40 a.m. when witnesses called 911 to report that a blue BMW was all over the freeway as it headed down the southbound lanes of I-405.
The State Patrol initially speculated that the man may have been "car surfing" by standing up in the car's sun roof.
But the patrol later said the man was hanging out of a car window. The driver of the car lost control and hit a guardrail.
The passenger was ejected.
He was later identified as Sidney P. Jahn, 18, of Kirkland.
Police later received a call from someone asking to meet with law enforcement about the accident. Trooper Rick Johnson says that when investigators showed up, however, the person wasn't there. They canvassed the area and found the BMW nearby, but have not yet identified who was driving.
Police and troopers are now trying to track down the driver, who is suspected of hit-and-run.
