Man jumps from moving SUV, causes crash on Hwy 9

MARYSVILLE, Wash. - A man is in serious condition after jumping out of an SUV on Highway 9, and causing a chain reaction crash near Marysville shortly after midnight on Friday.

Troopers say the 27-year-old man was a passenger in a Tahoe, and suddenly jumped out of the moving vehicle for an unknown reason. The 16-year-old driver then slammed on her brakes, and a second vehicle rear-ended the Tahoe while swerving to miss hitting the man.

A third vehicle also crashed into the Tahoe after the driver swerved to avoid hitting the second vehicle.

Emergency crews airlifted the man who jumped from the SUV to Harborview Medical Center. A woman traveling in the second vehicle, and one person in the third vehicle sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The 16-year-old driver has been charged with driving under the influence, and troopers say because there were several children in the car, multiple reckless endangerment charges may be added as well.

Investigators still do not know why the man jumped from the car, and have not specified how many passengers were traveling in the Tahoe.
