Man hospitalized in random attack in downtown Seattle

SEATTLE -- A man believed to be in this 30s was rushed to Harborview Medical Center Thursday afternoon after he was assaulted in what appears to have been an unprovoked attack in downtown Seattle.

According to the Seattle Police Department, the victim was standing on the sidewalk near Third Avenue and James Street when a man walked up to him and punched him in the face, knocking the victim to the ground. The suspect reportedly stole a cigarette from the victim and walked off.

The attack was seen by a witness, and it does not appear the suspect and victim knew each other, according to police.

Officers arrived and found the suspect walking into a nearby business. He was arrested and booked into King County Jail for investigation of robbery.
