Man claims he was attacked because he looks like he smokes pot

SEATTLE -- A man who was attacked and robbed Monday evening at Northgate Mall told officers he thinks he was targeted because he looks like he smokes marijuana.

According to the Seattle Police Department's report for the incident, the victim was at the mall with friends when he was approached by two men who asked if he had any pot. The victim told the men he didn't and went on his way.

Sometime later, the victim reentered the mall without his friends after smoking a cigarette outside, and the men jumped him, according to the report. One of the men reportedly grabbed the victim's backpack -- which contained his clothes and a cellphone and had a stuffed bear attached -- and the men ran off.

According to the report, the victim told officers he didn't have any pot on him or in his backpack, saying the men probably targeted him simply because he looks like he smokes pot.

Upon being informed by officers that he also smells like he smokes pot, the victim reportedly admitted to having recently smoked some.

While the victim said he was unable to describe the attackers, officers were able to get surveillance video of them from the mall.
