Man with rifle shot after holing up in Auburn home

AUBURN, Wash. - A 26-year-old man is in critical condition after firing at multiple police officers while holed up in a home.

Officers with the Auburn Police Department responded to several reports of gunfire at the home, in the 29800 block of 111th Avenue Southeast, Friday night around 11 p.m.

Officers say they attempted to contact residents inside the house but were shot at while moving through the back yard.

The officers were not injured. After initial gunfire, one person exited the home and was safely secured. Valley SWAT Team and Negotiators also responded.

Shortly after 2 a.m., SWAT officers saw a man exit the back door of the home with a rifle in hand. Several officers fired.

The man as hit and later transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The man is in critical but stable condition, officials say.

An officer from Renton and two officers from the Port of Seattle have been placed on administrative leave, per standard protocol.

The Valley Investigations Team is investigating.
