The boy was with his brother and five others hiking the Lake 22 Trail when they went three miles beyond the trail limit and headed up to snow fields and cliff bands, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff's office.
The victim was up ahead of the group when he fell a long distance. One person in the group hiked back and made it to a nearby home to call for help around 7:45 p.m.
Search and rescue crews, along with nearby hikers, helped a helicopter locate the body but they were unable to reach the body Saturday night.
A helicopter crew returned to the area Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. and recovered the boy's body.
The victim's name has not been released.
