Lightning strike knocks out power to 5,200 PSE customers

WOODINVILLE, Wash. - A lightning strike knocked out power to about 5,200 Puget Sound Energy customers in the Woodinville area overnight.

The lightning blasted a power pole in the 14800 block of Avondale Road NE sometime after 10 p.m. The charge spread up and down the power line, damaging three transformers and tripping circuit breakers across the area.

PSE crews worked throughout the night to make repairs, and power was restored to all customers by about 6 a.m.

A PSE spokesperson said the repairs were time-consuming because crews had to spend a lot of time resetting circuit breakers.

The lightning also damaged some power lines, burning away insulation. Those damaged lines have also been replaced.
