      Lewis-McChord soldier dies from wounds in Afghanistan

      WASHINGTON - A staff sergeant based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord has died of injuries he sustained in an enemy attack a few days earlier in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced.

      Staff Sgt. Nicholas J. Reid, 26, of Rochester, N.Y., died Thursday in Landstuhl, Germany, from wounds suffered Sunday in Sperwan Village, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

      Reid was assigned to the 53rd Ordnance Company (EOD), 3rd Ordnance Battalion (EOD), Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
