The drama unfolded at about 8:15 p.m. in the in the South Park Plaza shopping center on Village Lane SE in Port Orchard as three officers arrived with an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified as Thomas D. Rogers, 36.
Rogers was being sought by authorities in Tulsa County, Oklahoma, on an outstanding warrant for child molestation. He was also wanted for a probation violation in Kitsap County.
Rogers was armed with a knife and came toward the officers. The officers fired a Taser at Rogers, but it had no effect on him, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating the incident.
One officer suffered lacerations during the encounter and another sustained an ankle injury. At this point in the investigation, it appears that two of the officers fired their weapons at Rogers.
Medics arrived on scene and pronounced Rogers dead at the scene. Both injured officers were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Rogers had been wanted on three felony arrest warrants - one for five counts of child molestation, one for failure to appear in court on an assault charge and a third for a probation violation.
Rogers also had previous convictions for fourth-degree assault, third-degree malicious mischief, possession of a controlled substance and sexual abuse of a child.
