Kent mother arrested after infant found dead
KENT, Wash. (KOMO) -- A 24-year-old mother has been arrested after her infant son was found dead on Tuesday, Kent police said.
Officers came to the home in the 700 block of Woodford Ave. N. in Kent just before 8:30 p.m. after receiving reports of CPR being given to an unconscious infant, according to Cmdr. Jarod Kasner.
The boy didn't survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the mother had left her baby on a sleeping bag alone for a "significant amount of time," Kasner said. When the mom returned, the baby was face down and not breathing.
Kasner says the boy was just 2.5 months old, but had been born 6 weeks premature and spent the first month in the hospital.
"Information during the investigation led detectives to believe the mother was reckless in the care of her infant which resulted in the infant’s death," Kasner said. "This truly is a sad unfortunate case that could have been prevented."
Kasner said the mother was booked on Friday but didn't reveal under what charge she's being held, adding the investigation is continuing.
