Injured climber rescued after fall in Cascade Mountains

DOME PEAK, Wash. - An injured climber was rescued Sunday after he fell while ascending Dome Peak in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.

Search-and-rescue personnel and volunteers responded after an emergency beacon alert was picked up at about 4 p.m., said Shari Ireton of the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.

A rescue helicopter, SnoHAWK10, was dispatched to the area and found the climber, who had possible rib fractures from falling and landing on the lip of a crevasse on his back.

The man was packaged into a litter and hoisted to the helicopter, then airlifted to Cascade Valley Hospital around 9:30 p.m.

The man's name, age and condition were not immediately available.
