I-5 lanes expected to reopen Monday morning after repairs

SEATTLE - A major weekend construction project along Interstate 5 in Seattle is expected to be completed on time early Monday morning.

Three lanes of northbound I-5 have been closed down since Friday evening as crews replace old expansion joints along the roadway.

Workers finished replacing the joints on Sunday morning and started pouring concrete, which should be dried by early Monday, officials said.

The Department of Transportation is asking drivers to be patient so the road gets repaired properly.

"They're going to see not a lot of work going on (Sunday) because it's concrete drying, so we need that concrete to dry and to set so those expansion joints are good and strong," said state DOT spokesman Bart Treece.

The lanes will reopen early Monday, but a similar closure is scheduled for next weekend as well.
