Hot air balloon makes surprise landing in middle of Snohomish highway median
SNOHOMISH, Wash. -- A hot air balloon with seven people on board made quite the spectacle when they landed in the middle of a highway median in Snohomish.
No one was hurt.
WSDOT officials said the colorful balloon came down in a retention pond between US-2 and SR-9 just before 8:30 a.m.
The balloon is owned by Airial Balloon Company in Snohomish and had six people on board plus an operator, according to owner Marilyn Harvey.
She added hot air balloons never have a scheduled landing. "We just fly with the wind," she said.
Crews deflated the balloon and worked to remove it from the median. It's just the latest of several interesting items to be found on our area highways over the past months and years:
