Historic Alki Homestead to be restored

SEATTLE - An 111-year-old log structure in West Seattle's Alki neighborhood is going to be restored after years of neglect.

The Alki Homestead restaurant building in West Seattle, which has been closed since a fire in 2009, was designed a city landmark in 1996.

The owner of the building originally known as Fir Lodge will now be getting the repairs it needs to reopen.

Owner Dennis Schilling could not give a timeline for the restoration when the work was announced Saturday because the work must meet standards set by the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Board.

He also plans to build a six-unit apartment building next door to help pay for the restoration.
