Harbor Patrol rescues 2 kayakers at height of Monday's windstorm
SEATTLE - Two kayakers were rescued after they were spotted in distress on Lake Washington during the height of Monday's windstorm.
The drama unfolded around 4 p.m. when the Seattle Police Department's Harbor Patrol observed the two being tossed around by large waves and winds gusting near 50 mph off Magnuson Park.
The first kayaker, a 33-year-old woman, was pulled onto the patrol boat. She was showing signs of hypothermia, and immediately brought into the warm cabin of the boat, said Mark Jamieson of the Seattle police.
The second kayaker, a 32-year-old man, was able to paddle back to shore on his own, Jamieson said.
The Seattle Fire Department met the patrol boat near Magnuson Park and treated both kayakers for hypothermia. Both were treated and released.
The couple told officers they had been on the water for approximately three hours.
