Inslee was meeting with officials at the Chiwaukum incident command post in Leavenworth before heading to a Red Cross shelter in Chelan to meet with people who have been evacuated. Joining Inslee are Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste, Major General Bret Daugherty, and State Emergency Management Director Robert Ezelle.
At a press conference at his office earlier, Inslee said multiple agencies are involved in the battle against multiple fires, and that there are currently about 2,000 firefighters on the ground in eastern Washington, along with a dozen helicopters.
Karina Shagren, spokeswoman for the Washington state military department, said that in addition to 100 National Guard members who are on standby, up to 1,000 additional troops that are currently in Yakima could receive additional fire training.
Inslee spokesman David Postman said that more than 202,000 acres have burned so far.
