BREMERTON, Wash. - The maintenance building at a Bremerton-area golf course was destroyed by fire early Wednesday, but crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to a nearby home.

Firefighters responded to the scene, the Rolling Hills Golf Course on NE McWilliams Road, at about 1 a.m. after receiving reports of a fire at the maintenance shop.

When crews arrived, huge flames were billowing from the structure and were threatening a home about 10 feet away.

While firefighters were able to keep the home safe, the shop was a total loss, Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue officials said in a statement..

The home is occupied by on-site golf course managers who were able to get out safely with their three dogs.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
