No injuries were reported among the 120 people aboard the Arctic Storm.
Four other commercial fishing vessels that responded to a Coast Guard call for assistance evacuated 78 crew members and planned to take them to Westport, Petty Officer 3rd Class Nate Littlejohn said. The remaining 42 crew members planned to continue staffing the Arctic Storm.
A Coast Guard helicopter and two motor lifeboats monitored the evacuation about 30 miles west of Grays Harbor.
The crew used a chemical firefighting system aboard the ship and sealed the engine room to douse the fire, Littlejohn said.
A tug was called to tow the disabled vessel to Aberdeen, Wash., the spokesman said late Monday night. The Arctic Storm reportedly has 188,000 gallons of diesel fuel on board and 66,000 pounds of fish. There have been no reports of pollution.
The ship is owned by Arctic Storm, Inc., the Coast Guard said. A spokeswoman did not immediately return calls and emails seeking comment.
The Coast Guard plans to investigate the cause of the fire.
